Cookie Policy
Last updated: 3 July 2026
DRAFT — pending legal review (Anne) — not yet in force.
This page lists the cookies and similar technologies used in the Rentisha dashboard (the landlord/staff app), what each one does, and how to change your choice. It mirrors the tenant app's cookie policy, adjusted for what this app actually uses.
1. Necessary cookies and storage
Signing in to the dashboard uses a sign-in cookie so you stay logged in between visits — unlike the tenant app, this cookie is actively used here. It, and the local-storage record of your cookie choice, are always on because the dashboard can’t function without them.
2. Analytics cookies — off until you say yes
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how the dashboard is used, so we can improve it. These cookies are never loaded until you actively opt in using the cookie banner. If you don’t opt in, no analytics script runs and no analytics cookie is set.
3. The full inventory
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Category | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| __Host-rt (production) / rt (development) | Rentisha | Keeps you signed in to the dashboard without asking for your password again (refresh token). HttpOnly — page scripts can't read it. | Necessary | 7 days, renewed on sign-in or refresh |
| rentisha-cookie-consent (browser local storage, not a cookie) | Rentisha (this app) | Remembers the cookie choice you make below, so we don't ask again every visit. | Necessary | Until you clear it or change your choice |
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes visitors, in aggregate, so we can see how the dashboard is used. Loads only if you opt in to analytics. | Analytics — opt-in | 2 years |
| _ga_<container ID> | Google Analytics 4 | Persists analytics session state. Loads only if you opt in to analytics. | Analytics — opt-in | 2 years |
The tenant app additionally lists a language-preference cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) that is rolling out there — this dashboard doesn’t currently offer language selection, so it isn’t listed here. If you use “Continue with Google” to sign in, Google may set its own cookies (for example on accounts.google.com) to run that button — those are Google’s cookies, not ours.
4. Your choices
A banner on your first visit lets you allow or decline analytics cookies. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under the key rentisha-cookie-consent, as { necessary, analytics, updatedAt }. Change your mind any time via the “Cookie settings” link in the banner, or by clearing your browser’s site data for the dashboard, which resets the choice and shows the banner again.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the dashboard changes. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
6. Contact and complaints
For questions about cookies, contact Kigs Apex Solutions at info@kigsapexsolutions.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) of Kenya. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data more generally.
